What exact text do I put in the Etsy GPSR Product Safety section?
Put the warnings a buyer needs to use the item safely into the product safety section of your Etsy listing form, in every language you sell in. It was labelled Product safety info when we last checked. For a soy container candle, the English text is: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Do not burn on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets. Avoid inhaling smoke directly. Ventilate the room well after use.
Company details go elsewhere. Etsy asks for the manufacturer in the listing form and for your EU Responsible Person as an economic operator in your shop settings. Etsy can rename these sections, and they can look different by country or account. If you cannot find one, search Etsy's help center for economic operator.
Do handmade sellers in the US/UK need a physical GPSR label on packaging?
Yes, if you sell as a business to buyers in the EU or Northern Ireland. GPSR has no handmade exemption, and it applies wherever the seller is based.
The product must carry a batch, type or serial number that consumers can read, plus the manufacturer's name, postal address and electronic address. If the size or nature of the item rules that out, Articles 9(5) and 9(6) allow the packaging or an accompanying document instead. Your EU Responsible Person's details can go on the product, packaging, parcel or an accompanying document under Article 16(3). A small label on the item or its packaging, or a printed insert, is the usual way for handmade sellers to do this.
UK sellers count as non-EU sellers for this purpose, so sales from Great Britain to the EU need an EU Responsible Person. The rules also apply to sales into Northern Ireland.
What languages are required for EU GPSR warnings?
There is no single EU language. Articles 9(7) and 19(d) require a language consumers can easily understand, as decided by each Member State where the product is sold. In practice, use the national language of each country you ship to.

What must my online listing show under GPSR Article 19?
Four things, clearly and visibly: the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic addresses; the EU Responsible Person's name and addresses if the manufacturer is outside the EU; information that identifies the product, including a picture, its type and any other identifier; and any warning or safety information, in a language consumers in that country can easily understand.
Do I need an EU Responsible Person, and what does one cost?
Yes, unless your product already has an EU-based manufacturer, importer, or similar operator. Article 16(1) says a product cannot be placed on the market without an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. That operator can be a manufacturer, importer, authorised representative or fulfilment service provider.
Dedicated services commonly advertise about €150 to €500 per year for small catalogues, and many charge by product. Etsy names Cert-Rep and International Associates as partners that help sellers find one. Compare per-SKU fees and renewal prices before you sign.
Can I generate labels before I have an EU Responsible Person?
Yes. Leave those fields blank and your labels print with lines to fill in. You still need a named Responsible Person before you sell into the EU. To pause EU sales on Etsy until then, look in your shop settings for the option that controls how you sell to GPSR states, and exclude physical items.
Where do GPSR details go on Shopify?
Shopify has no dedicated GPSR field. Put your warning text in its Disclosures feature, found with the product metafields, or in a custom metafield. Add the manufacturer and Responsible Person details to the product description or a custom metafield. The exact names depend on your admin version and theme, so open the live product page and check that every detail shows.
When did GPSR start, and which countries does it cover?
Regulation (EU) 2023/988 has applied since 13 December 2024. It covers all 27 EU Member States and also applies in Northern Ireland. Etsy applies its GPSR requirements to the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Northern Ireland.
How does this tool help with EU GPSR (Regulation 2023/988) requirements?
